SolarWinds Says Compromised Software Update Exposed 18,000 Customers to Potential Security Breach

SolarWinds filed an SEC report that revealed that their Orion Network Software was compromised (most likely by a nation state (Russia). The tainted software update exposed about 18,000 of the 30,000 customers using the product. According to Reuters, "Two people familiar with the investigation into the hack told Reuters that any organisation running a compromised version of the Orion software would have had a “backdoor” installed in their computer systems by the attackers.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency issued and Emergency Directive 21-01, “ Mitigate SolarWinds Orion Code Compromise ”.
