Apple revealed a better way to track your devices if someone steals your laptop on Monday at its Worldwide Developer’s Conference. The new system cryptographically secures your geolocation data so no one, in theory, will be able to snoop on you. You have to have two Apple devices ie a laptop and an iPad. The system uses existing BLE with a little data that rides on top of the existing network traffic so there’s no drain on power. Each device sends out a constantly changing key one using a private key and the other a public key. But Apple has contrived some tricky mathematical scheme to rotate the key to make it unguessable. This info is sent to the cloud via a hash say from your iPad to keep this whole thing secure… unless someone figures out how to crack it. More here.
